Looking for a fresh environment and at the same time having an adventure? Then Mountain trekking is good for you.
It was a gloomy day of January 23rd when we had our mountain experience at Mt. Balagbag. I am so excited that time since it will be my first mountain adventure. A night before the big day, I have prepared all the things needed.
Since I’m a boy scout, I’ve brought with me, 2 pcs. Of extra shirts, 1 pc of underwear and shorts, 2 pcs of 1L bottled water. Snacks, Power bank, my cell phone fully charged and umbrella.
I was so excited that I haven’t slept well that day. The next day had come and I was so excited to wake up my friends to start the day. After everything been set and packed then off we go.
We were at cubao station, 4:45 in the morning since we aim to arrive at the foot of Mt. Balagbag early so it won’t be that hot going on a trek up.
We rode a bus going to Tungko and made our way to the jeepney terminal going to Licao Licao near the vicinity of SM San Jose Del Monte Bulacan. Going to Licao is estimatedly an hour or less. When we set our foot at Licao Licao we have two choices and that is to start our trek walking upto the entry point or ride a tricycle costing 30 pesos. Since as I said it is indeed gloomy, and we aren’t pumped up yet to start our adventure we chose to ride the tricycle.
Going at the entry point isn’t easy that day, since there’s a small to moderate amount of rainfall, it’s hard to go up even if we’re riding a tricycle. The trail was very muddy, steep and slippery.
At last we’ve reached the entry point and registered ourselves at the center there.
-GOING UP FROM THE ENTRY POINT-
We immediately started our trail way up to Mt. Balagbag. The route is muddy and slippery but it was indeed much exciting and fun. Upon going up, you’ll meet some villagers that will greet you warmly with a smile on their faces. Some may ask you to hire them as your tour guide for their allowance in school. Since a friend of ours has been there before, we didn’t hire one and continued our long sweaty adventure. Yes it will be a sweaty adventure even if the sun hasn’t risen yet. With that I removed my shirt off. And to tell you, Even if it’s cold you won’t feel the cold. Still you’ll bathe on your sweat AHAHA.
It was more or less 45 minutes before we reached the entry point of Mt. Balagbag and along our way up. Everyone is busy at taking pictures for Instagram feeds.
Arriving at the entry point of Mt. Balagbag, there is another registration costing 10 pesos each. Afterwards you can stay there a little for rest and have a picture taking. Unfortunately it was foggy up there that we didn’t enjoyed the view well. But still it’s all worth it.
From the Entry point, you have your choice which way to go and we decided to head west.
Mt. Balagbag is a mountain range lined with the Sierra Madre at over 777 MASL. Mt. Balagbag is good for beginners and was ranked level 3 of 9. If you wish to go for an adventure go bring your friends since it will be a good bonding moments for all of you. Also prepare your endurance and perseverance upon going up the trail. Climbing up the mountain would be very hot during 9:00 am upto 4:00 since there are no trees that will give you shade. But don’t worry there are some places with cottages and tables in case you want to rest. Going up you’ll meet other hikers too.
-1ST JUMP OFF TO THE PEAK-
Moving on with our adventure we have reached the far upper end of Mt. Balagbag and had picture taking. Afterwards we move east to climb the peak of Mt. Balagbag. Since the weather is gloomy the place was covered with a thick fog.
Finally, We’ve reach the Peak of Mt. Balagbag barefooted. Yes, you have read it right LMAO. A s I mentioned earlier it was raining and so the trail was all covered with mud. It’s hard to go up with your sandals covered with thick mud and so we decided to removed our footwear and go barefooted.
It was indeed fulfilling and proud to reach the peak of Mt. Balagbag. The trekking adventure was indeed fun and really exciting.
After a long and tiring trek there will be a rewarding refreshment there. You can soak yourself at the fresh Kaytitinga falls and continue your bonding with friends.
Unfortunately, our team didn’t make it to Kaytitinga Falls since we’ve spent almost all our time taking pictures and some of us needs to go back at the city now because of their job. Saddening as it may seem but still i’m happy that my first trekking adventure was indeed memorable.
The mountain wouldn’t leave its place so I can go back anytime I wish too. When? I don’t know yet but surely, “I WILL GO BACK, NO MATTER WHAT.”
